Planning
Saskatchewan’s tourism products and services are exciting and diverse. Many areas and communities throughout the province are enhancing their economic diversification and capitalizing on Saskatchewan’s unspoiled wilderness, abundant wildlife populations, inspiring cultural festivals and events, unique heritage, welcoming accommodations and outstanding attractions and services. Tourism Saskatchewan’s Industry Development department believes tourism areas and communities must come together to set short and long term goals and strive to meet them as a team. See the sections below for more information about Community Development and Destination Area Planning, and how Tourism Saskatchewan aides in these areas.
Community Development
Saskatchewan communities are increasingly turning to tourism as an opportunity for economic diversification and new jobs. The retention of businesses and services in many communities depends more and more upon visitor spending. Tourism Saskatchewan has developed the Community Tourism Planning Guide to help community leaders direct and focus tourism planning capabilities at the community and district level. We believe this guide, along with the guidance of Tourism Saskatchewan’s Industry Development team, will help steer your community in the direction of success in tourism!

Numerous cities, towns, and villages across Saskatchewan have completed Community Tourism Plans in the last few years. A number of these communities are prepared to share their Tourism Plans with other communities upon request. For more information, contact the Industry Development Branch at either the Regina or Saskatoon locations.
Destination Area Planning
By definition a tourism destination is, “a geographic area in which attractions, businesses, residents and regulatory authorities work together to deliver distinctive, high quality services and experiences, capable of attracting and holding significant numbers of visitors, from both within and outside the province.” Sound complicated? Tourism Saskatchewan’s Industry Development team can help you get on track and provide assistance in helping make your area a destination.
