Frank Korvemaker

Mr. Frank Korvemaker is a construction historian who was born in the Netherlands and educated in eastern and western Canada.  He has worked in the field of heritage resource conservation, documentation, and development for over 42 years.


From 1979 to 2004, Frank worked in various capacities for the Heritage Branch of the Saskatchewan Government and was responsible for taking the majority of the Branch’s collection of over 40,000 pre-digital photographs of historic buildings and structures throughout Saskatchewan.  His photography and writings have appeared in a number of publications.  In 2008, he celebrated the launch of his book, Legacy of Stone:  Saskatchewan’s Stone Buildings, co-authored with Margaret Hryniuk and Larry Easton.  Frank started working with the Saskatchewan Archives Board in 2004, where he has transferred his focus from appraising and preserving heritage buildings to appraising and preserving historic documents.

For his contribution to the preservation of Saskatchewan’s heritage resources, Frank has been honoured with the Saskatchewan Architectural Heritage Society President’s Award and lifetime membership, the Heritage Canada Foundation’s Lieutenant Governor’s Award, the Province of Saskatchewan’s Saskatchewan Centennial Medal, and the Saskatchewan Association of Architects’ Honourary lifetime membership.
