George Lidster

Mr. George Lidster was born and raised on the family homestead northeast of White Fox.  After graduating from the White Fox High School, he went to Saskatoon and completed his diploma in agriculture in 1969.  He returned to joint operate, with his parents, a mixed farm producing grains, forages, and beef cattle.  After buying the family farm in 1983, he gradually switched to more sustainable forage and beef production.  George was one of the original board members of the Western Canada Cow-Calf Association and has subsequently served on various other committees and projects in the livestock and forage industry.

In 1993, George and his wife, Jean, started Torch Valley Country Retreats, a year-round tourism accommodations operation focusing on sustainable tourism.  He has been involved in local tourism committees and promotional activities, and served on Tourism Saskatchewan’s Peer Review Committee.  The Lidsters currently have three log cabins and look forward to continuing to develop sustainability in the ranch and tourism business.
